FEFCO System – a standard classification for corrugated cardboard packaging
The FEFCO System is an international classification of corrugated cardboard packaging designs developed by FEFCO. Its purpose is to organize a wide range of box formats through clear numerical codes that define the packaging structure, folding method, and functional use.
Each of the FEFCO Styles corresponds to a specific box construction, making it possible to precisely identify a packaging type without creating individual technical documentation. As a result, the FEFCO System has become a common language for packaging manufacturers, designers, and end users—regardless of production scale or the market in which a company operates.
FEFCO Styles and Their Use in Corrugated Box Production
FEFCO Styles cover both simple flap boxes used for transport and warehousing, as well as more advanced designs such as telescopic boxes, trays, die-cut packaging, and special-purpose forms. This structured classification makes it easier to match a specific FEFCO Box Style to product requirements, the type of corrugated board used, and logistical conditions.
In practice, this enables the design of packaging that addresses not only product protection, but also packing ergonomics, transport stability, and overall production efficiency. The FEFCO System, developed by FEFCO, simplifies the comparison of different box styles and the evaluation of their functionality, which is why FEFCO Styles are widely used as a reference standard in modern corrugated packaging production.
